Why Seek a Diagnosis?
Getting a formal ADHD diagnosis can bring clarity, direction, and access to support. Whether symptoms are affecting relationships or day-to-day life, a diagnosis helps:
- Understand how your brain works
- Access appropriate treatment or medication
- Develop practical coping strategies
- Reduce feelings of frustration or being “behind”
- Improve performance and confidence
At Diverse Minds Clinic, we work to understand your complete picture, not just your symptoms. We recognize that ADHD often overlaps with other conditions like anxiety, autism, or mood disorders, and we tailor assessments accordingly.
What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a condition people are born with, and it often runs in families. Learning about ASD is important for getting an accurate diagnosis as an adult, which can make a real difference in quality of life. Around 1% of people have ASD, so about 700,000 people in the UK live with it. If you have ASD, your traits have been present since early childhood.
ASD is genetic and often runs in families. Research has found many genes linked to autism, but the biology is still complex. Brain scans show that autistic people have different brain activity compared to neurotypical people.
Common traits of Autism include:
- Differences in social interaction and communication
- Intense focus on specific interests or routines
- Repetitive behaviours or movements (e.g., pacing, hand-flapping)
- Sensory sensitivities to noise, textures, or light
- Difficulty interpreting unwritten social rules
Autism is unique to each person. Some people hide their traits to fit in, while others show them more openly. Women and girls are often underdiagnosed because their signs can be less obvious.
Many autistic people also have other conditions like ADHD, anxiety, depression, or learning differences. This is why a careful and thorough assessment is so important.
Why Seek an Autism Diagnosis?
- Understand and embrace their neurodivergent identity
- Improve communication, daily living, and emotional regulation skills
- Avoid misdiagnosis and reduce stress, especially for adults and women
- Develop long-term, tailored strategies for well-being
- Our Private Autism UK Assessments are quick, professional, and follow NICE-approved standards
